The Alliance of American football is preparing to kick off February 9, one week after the Super Bowl is played. They will play in the spring with eight teams located all over the southern U.S.
Over 500 players have already been signed through a regional draft. Players that were not in a selected region could be signed by any team. San Diego was awarded with a franchise. So while the San Diego Fleet have a lot of players from the California area there are also players from as far away as Maine on the roster.
The Fleet will play their home games at San Diego County Credit Union Stadium, the former home of the San Diego Chargers.
Mike Martz will be the head coach of the Fleet when they make their debut this season. Martz is best known for his days with the Rams and the “Greatest Show on Turf”. Expect a lot of passing and fast paced offense for the Fleet this season as they selected NINE wide receivers in the AAF inaugural draft.
A couple of players to watch are former San Diego college All-American QB Josh Johnson, who spent 11 years in the NFL and running back Bishop Sankey , former 2nd round draft pick of the Tennessee Titans who has three years of NFL experience.
While there are no guarantees as a new league kicks off a season, one guarantee I would have for this team is that it will be fun to watch. Check out the Fleet when you have the chance:
