The number of yards receiving that Blake Sims of the Birmingham Iron had his freshman year at Alabama. Even though he threw for 6,073 yards in high school, Sims played running back and back up QB his first three years at Alabama. When he won the starting job his senior year he threw for 3487 yards which broke A.J. McCarron’s single season record at Alabama. Alabama lost to Ohio State in the National Championship game that year. Since then he has bounced around in the Canadian Football League, the National Gridiron League in Australia (he played for the Wollongong Devils) and two short lived terms with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons in the NFL.
Sims is one of four QBs on the Iron but seems to have a good chance to win the starting job.
18 is also the number of players on the Salt Lake Stallions that played college football in Utah. That’s right, a lot of name recognition, but Utah is not exactly Texas, California or SEC country. So the young Stallions may face an uphill battle as they get running this season.
